OUR HISTORY

The inaugural Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl took place on Thursday, March 20, 2014 -- the first day of spring -- and was met with a huge turnout and success. For the next 5 years, the event continued to grow, build, and see great success, drawing hundreds of people to our downtown core for 3 weekends each year to stop into local businesses to celebrate, view, and purchase art, meet with local artists, and hear live music.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl had to shift its operational model given the inability to gather as a community in large numbers. The event took on a hybrid approach, hosting 2 events where art was featured in downtown businesses' windowfronts for pedestrians to explore safely over the course of a whole month in order to limit interaction, and pieces were auctioned online at the end of each event.

In 2021, the art crawl event was adopted by the Sudbury Arts Council, changing its branding to the 'Sudbury Art Crawl.' The event is slowly expanding its reach by featuring art in venues across the City of Greater Sudbury. This year will continue to operate under the hybrid model (a combination of indoor and windowfront art displays, plus online auctions), and will also focus on incorporating more art forms, by incorporating poetry, literature, and theatre elements along with the beloved visual arts and music demonstrations. We're so grateful to be able to bring you in-person events once again!
